FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I have to wear a mask when I come to the gym?
As of Thursday July 16th @ 5 pm, the Governor Ivey has issued a mandatory mask order. The order states that all public places that you will be within 6 feet of someone you must wear a mask. There are a few exceptions, and that includes when working out so long as we are 6 feet away from each other, we do not have to wear a mask.
What does this mean our athletes?
We are asking that every person who enters the building has a mask before coming in while we do the temperature checks.
At this point, you may take off your mask as you head to wash your hands. Wash your hands for 20 seconds (please make sure this is done before touching the equipment) Grab equipment while maintaining social distancing. Post-workout- once the equipment is cleaned, please wash your hands.
Once you are done, please do not assemble and chat after the workout, and if you feel compelled to do so, we will ask that you take it outside or put your masks on while doing so.
Coaches will be wearing masks during temperature checks and during Personal training sessions where they have to get close to the athletes. During class, they will remain a 6-foot distance from the athletes, and if they need to do a tactile cue, they will be required to put their masks on before correcting.
We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we are committed to the safety of you, the staff, and the community and understand that this is vital to stopping the spread. Thank you for your compliance, and please make sure you are prepared with a facial covering. We do not want to have to stop you from coming into the gym.

What exactly is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a fitness program that will change your life. By it’s definition, it uses “constantly varied, functional movement performed at a relative high intensity”. As a truly functional program, the difficulty level of our daily workouts is designed to be increased or decreased, depending upon the individual. This makes them doable by anyone.

Daily workouts could include things such as core conditioning, rowing, sprinting, gymnastics, lifting, etc. And all our workouts are designed to improve overall flexibility, strength, speed, endurance, and agility.

I’m not in very good shape… can I do CrossFit?

The very first thing you will discover is that CrossFit does not discriminate. Whether you are young at heart, or have just completed your 50th marathon, or are recovering from injury or healing a broken heart, whether walking the dog is the only exercise you’ve had in years, or you’re someone training for the Iditarod…We will help you achieve your fitness goals.

One of the things that makes CrossFit so unique is our community of people from literally every walk of life: stay-at-home parents, elite athletes, students, CEOs, members of the armed services, firefighters, you name it. CrossFit bodies – our bodies – come in every imaginable size, shape and age; and yet, our workouts every day are designed for anyone to do them.

Yes, anyone, even you.

What will my first time in your gym be like?

Your first time in, we want you to feel comfortable. One of our awesome coaches will sit down with you and walk through your goals. We’ll answer any questions you may have and get you set up for success.

Do you offer Child Care?

We provide childcare for four workouts a day. Our professional staff of childcare providers will ensure that your children are taken care while you are working out. During the week childcare is offered during our 8:00AM, 9:00AM, 5:30PM, and 6:30 PM classes. On Saturday, we also have childcare for our 9:00AM class.

What’s your drop-in policy?

We love nothing more than having visitors from other boxes come “throw down” with us!
If you are just passing through, we charge a drop in fee of $25.00 per day.

 

We want to make sure you stay safe so we prefer our drop ins to have at least 6 months of Crossfit experience. For class drop -ins we require  a coach from your current box send us an email at elliott@crossfitdeprivation.com in order to verify.

 

It’d be great if you’d plan on arriving 15 minutes before scheduled class time so we can provide you with a waiver to sign if you haven’t already filled one in online and so that we can introduce you to our box. You can find our class schedule Here.

For open gym drop-ins we just require you sign a waiver before starting your workout.

You may find that we do things a little differently than your “box back home.” We hope that you enjoy the change in scenery, clientele, maybe even music. If anything makes you uncomfortable, however, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Can I do my own thing during class?

For any experienced CrossFitters, Weightlifters, and Strongman, we have an Open Gym area where you can follow your own programming. We only ask that you follow our house rules.

They are:

  1. Class has priority.
  2. Clips on all bars with weight even while warming up. No exceptions.
  3. Have fun!
Do you operate on Eastern Time?

Yep, all class times listed are on Eastern Standard Time.

How often do you recommend I come to the gym?

Everyone is different, and your coach will help you find the perfect routine. In general, if you’re just starting up, we recommend coming three days/week for your first couple weeks, then building up  to four, then five.

Why is your gym more expensive than other gyms?

We know you may have a lot of choices on where to workout. What’s best… A treadmill at home? The gym down the street that is $15/month? A CrossFit membership? We’d actually encourage you to ask a different question. What are your goals? Personalized attention? Trained, professional coaches? Accountability? Working out with a group of like-minded people who cheer on your success? If the answer to any of the above is “yes”, then we’d encourage you to check us out.
